Jisu Kim (b. 1991) works between Munich and Busan. She takes various relational and environmental stimuli as the parameters of her paintings and
experiments with the possibilities of expansion through their transformations. She recently exhibited “IF YOU WERE HERE” (2025, NEU WORKSHOP) and
“The Dwelling” (2026, EAREAR).

ROOMS IN ROOM, 2024

photographed by Jisu KimMy work focuses on generative processes grounded in relationships. The elements on each surface carry layered meanings and functions in relation to time, movement, and interpersonal dynamics,
at times complementing one another and at other times conflicting.Most of my work begins with collecting fragments of memory, everyday experiences, conversations, interpersonal dynamics, and archival images.
Rather than functioning as narratives, these elements are broken apart, repeated, and reassembled as materials, through which a surface or gesture gradually takes shape.
In recent works, I construct layered forms that fold and overlap organically. Across these surfaces, white traces interweave like pixels or mosaics, forming organic connections. These layers partially obscure the underlying images while generating new visual configurations and relationships.
I primarily work with tempera on wooden panels, while also incorporating other materials such as graphite. In addition, I expand the material possibilities of my practice through collaborations with artists from different disciplines, including musicians and programmers.
